3125 Scale Vari Frigate (FF) MGL

The Omega Octant is east of the Alpha Octant empires seen in the Star Fleet Universe (beyond the Inter-Stellar Concordium), on the other side of a galactic void. That void is a dead zone where life is impossible and ships fall apart, marking a separation between Octants.  The Vari Combine is comprised of an arachnid species resembling a two-meter-long version of a common Terran garden spider. The Vari subsist on a completely liquid diet, almost exclusively made up of the blood of various forms of animal and insect life, and always drawn from a living subject. Indeed, the Vari consider the blood of the mammalian Maesron member species to be a delicacy, leading to a series of “blood raids” which almost in themselves led to the onset of the First Great War.  The Vari were divided into 20-odd cells, each with a Vizu (queen). Each cell is rife with Byzantine intrigue, as a host of rival families seek to overthrow the Vizu and take her place. For most of Vari history, most cells were independent of one another, and civil wars between cells were rare. Only after the Andromedan and Souldra invasions were over did one cell, the Vriss (close to Drex space) rise to unite all Vari under their rule. Vari ships are armed with particle phasers, particle beams, and particle probes; they later developed the particle phaser stabilizer and the plasma-like particle splitter torpedo.

Due to the manner in which Vari shipyards were constructed, the “Middle Years” Vari fleet had no true destroyer. As such, for the bulk of this period, the role of a “small ship for small missions” fell most heavily on the frigate design. As it stood, this ship was reasonably well armed and well shielded for its type, though it struggled with a weaker power curve relative to some of its counterparts. The Vari gradually developed leader, scout, light scout carrier, escort, and fast patrol ship tender variants of the frigate. In addition, when the need for a destroyer-sized ship became acute during the Maesron Collapse, some Vari cells compensated by stretching the frigate hull into a heavy frigate design.

The ship is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
