In the original Battlestar Galactica Series from 1978, several different variants of those so-called "Flattop's" appeared. This one was shown in the new series too. Those ships served as mobile repair and salvage ships. In the Rag Tag Fleet, they also served as mobile Spacedocks. The size is derived from a poster found on the internet. At this size, the half round hangar and the opening in the lower tube are large enough for a Colonial Viper or a Raptor, so this sounds credible.
