Corrugated round 'Camping' huts
The origin of these sheds is unknown, but Colonel Stephens bought a number of them in 1920s. One was used as a storage shed at Shepherdswell station on East Kent Railway, the others on the SMR and rented out as camping huts. The last rentals were in 1939, and they appear to have not been used after then, and were probably scrapped after WW2.
There are also records of these sheds being used by the RAF home and abroad in WW2. Some ended up as part of other buildings, in one case combined with a Nissen hut.
Unfortunately none appear to exist now, and the only detailed information is from assembly documents which show some measurements. Diameter was 15ft and wall panels were 6ft by 2ft 3in. This works out at 20 panels plus connecting posts for a complete circle. The roof was pitched and height has been estimated from photos. The side walls were corrugated and the roof flat panels with overlapping ridges. These roof panels appear to overlap the joins in walls, presumably for extra strength and waterproofing.
It is thought these could be built in different ways, the most common being a central door, with a window either side.
