3788 Scale Klingon F5-Based Frigate Collection WEM

This collection of F5 frigate-sized ships includes the F5L Frigate Leader, F5S Frigate Scout, and two F5 Frigates.

Officially listed as a frigate by the Klingons (making it the largest in use) and as a destroyer by the Federation (it would be the smallest destroyer in service), the F5 was actually the most numerous Klingon warship in service until near the end of the General War. Frigates were small ships for small missions, such as probing an unknown sector, guarding a colony, escorting a convoy, or screening an open flank. In fleet combat, they guarded larger ships from attack.

Often called a destroyer, the F5L Frigate Leader is used by the Klingons as the flagship of three-ship frigate squadrons. These ships were built originally as F5C Frigate Leaders (once they received the K-refit, they were designated “F5L”); while the ship is similar to a standard F5 Frigate, the modifications are extensive. The F5L has a larger deckhouse than the standard F5 along with some extra equipment that a commander would need (communications and sensor mast). It also has an extra drone port in the rear.

A variant of the Klingon F5 frigate with special sensors replacing the disruptors, the F5S Frigate Scout were the standard scouts of the Klingon Empire at the start of the General War. Scouts in the Star Fleet Universe scan for potential targets, track approaching enemies, and provide electronic warfare support during fleet battles.

This sprue of ships is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
