Product Description
18x Dinorwic Quarry rail chairs in 7/8" scale (1:13.7), also known as SE or 7/8n2 scale.
These chairs are intended to fit Cliff Barker code 250 bullhead rail for Gauge 3, being the nearest match I have found for Dinorwic Quarry 42 lb double head rail. They will not fit any other rail section.
Each chair has a 3 mm diameter spigot to locate into the sleeper, directly below the rail centre. Cliff Barker code 250 bullhead rail is 2.94 mm wide, meaning that sleepers should be drilled at 47.94 mm centres. In practice, 48 mm is fine.
One set of chairs is enough for one 24' track panel. Nine of the chairs are keyed in one direction, eight are keyed in the other direction, and one is missing a key. Prototypical sleepers were mostly 9" or 10" wide and about 54" long, but there was considerable variation, and slate sleepers were also used. The outermost chairs were centred about 12" from the end of the rail (keys driven towards the fishplate, obviously) and intermediate chairs were about 33" between centres. Keys were on the outside.
If you want to model fishplates, these were 16" long with 4" bolt centres and 3/4" holes for 5/8" dome-head nibbed bolts. Usual practice appears to have been to have the nuts on the outside.
Versatile Plastic is very robust, but it might not be suitable for permanent outdoor use.
