When they needed a ship that was partially materialized in solid rock for the TNG episode "The Pegasus", Rick Sternbach designed a new ship made of parts from the Enterprise-C (Ambassador Class) model. Unfortunately, due to budget limitations, they didn't build that and used the Oberth Class model (USS Grissom from Star Trek III) instead. You can read about this here at memory alpha. I used the sketch there as a basis for this kitbash. I removed two of the phaser strips at the underside of the saucer, as they would have only a limited firing arc now with the nacelles in the way. Instead, i added two small strips to the nacelle pylons and one at the underside of the engineering section. The memory alpha entry also shows a status display that actually appeared in the episode, showing two pairs of nacelles. It seems as if the newly designed ship was supposed to have four warp nacelles before it was decided to use the Oberth Class model. Someone once suggested to just mirror the lower nacelles, including the pylons to the top of the saucer to create a four-nacelled variant. But this doesn't look good in my opinion. So i took some inspiration from one of the early Nebula Class prototypes that where build by Ed Miarecki (Prototype #1). He used a complete set of smaller warp nacelles, including the original pylons from a much smaller Galaxy Class model kit and positioned it right behind the saucer. So i did something similar with slightly smaller Ambassador Class nacelles on this model.
