Product Description
The Omega Octant is east of the Alpha Octant empires seen in the Star Fleet Universe (beyond the Inter-Stellar Concordium), on the other side of a galactic void. That void is a dead zone where life is impossible and ships fall apart, marking a separation between Octants. The Maesron Alliance was one of the preeminent empires of the Omega Octant, at one point the largest empire before civil war, economic collapse, and foreign invasion reduced their territory to a small enclave. Maesron ships are armed with wide-angle phasers, tachyon guns, and tachyon missiles.

The Maesron gunboat is among the largest of the volatile warp gunboat types to better employ a set of oversized tachyon missiles. The standard gunboat is armed with two wide-angle phaser-1s, two wide-angle phaser-3s, a pair of forward-oriented tachyon guns, and a type-A (three-missile) tachyon missile rack. Gunboats are deployed in flotillas of four, often with a leader but no scout. This tree of gunboats contains four standard, one leader, one scout, and two missile gunboats.

The Maesron gunboat leader had 50% more battery and auxiliary power reactor space than the standard Mæsron gunboat, as well as stronger shielding. Even with the added power systems, the Maesron gunboat leader found it difficult to arm and hold both of its tachyon guns at their higher arming levels at once.

The Maesrons did not get around to designing a scout gunboat until well into the Seventh Cycle, and even then this variant (which replaced the tachyon guns with a pair of special sensors) was never universally deployed. While adequate for the needs of the Omega Octant, the see-saw nature of volatile warp afterburner use coupled with the inability to use warp booster packs made its electronic warfare output less consistent than that of Alpha Octant gunboat scouts.

The Maesron missile gunboat replaced the tachyon guns with a pair of type-B (five-missile) tachyon missile racks. However, while it was not unusual to find one in a given flotilla, the difficulties the Maesrons faced in re-arming them mostly limited their deployment to bases.

This tree of gunboats is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
