Rumpler constructed 58 medium bombers during the Great War, and the
Rumpler G.III was the most numerous model. The G.III arrived at the front in December 1916 and served at least through spring of 1918, when serveral were still on hand. Though a few were lost in accidents, none of the Rumpler G-types were ever shot down, a testament to the robustness. In 1917
Idflieg wisely decided to let Rumpler concentrate on their excellent high-altitude two-seaters and let other manufacturers such as A.E.G. and Gotha continue bomber development.
The G.III was a development of the earlier
Rumpler G.I and
G.II.
Available in both 1/144 and 1/288 (1/285) scale. At 1/288, propeller blades cannot be printed, so propeller disks are used on the 1/288 model instead.
DESIGNER NOTE:
Models at scales smaller than 1:144 may no longer be available. Shapeways discontinued the material for which they were designed, and the newer materials require that each and every model be adjusted to thicken surfaces like wings. If you are interested in a particular model in a small scale, please let me know and I will prioritize it higher in the queue.
