Southern Railway Rotherfield and Mark Cross station building
Station on ex LBSCR Cuckoo line.
Classic late Victorian design. Inspired by article in Railway Modeller(1969), when I scratchbuilt a model myself, along with drawings in book on the Cuckoo line by AC Elliott, and article drawings in Model Railway News(1960) plus modifications based on photos.
Style was very much late Victorian with mock Tudor effects. Originally upper walls on house were covered in decorated panels, but these were later covered up by a combination of straight and curved edge tiles, the number of each varying from station to station.
Most of the station buildings on now closed Cuckoo line still exist, but some have had major alterations. Stations on the Bluebell Railway are to similar design.
In all the designs the house parts were usually the same, but the length of the attached single storey booking hall varied.
Scale OO (1/76 4mm/ft)
