If you want to purchase several guitar picks and personalize each with a short word and/or image this model is for you. As the Shapeways CustomMaker tool is set up now you can normally only personalize one pick at a time and that results in expensive guitar picks. This model attempts to reduce cost a bit by having only one handling fee, although the savings are slightly offset by the additional plastic required to allow this method to work (*see below for explanation). Each pick has a small hole and is held in place on a long strip with a small tab. Cut the tabs with a pair of wire cutters or finger nail clippers to remove the picks from the strip. Dimensions for each pick are width = 32 millimeters, height = 31 millimeters, thickness = 1.4 millimeters. They are also great for use as pendants and other kinds of jewelry!
Personalization is performed using 0.6 millimeter engraving. To personalize with several short words add additional spaces between the words to space them out across all of the guitar picks as desired. You may also add an image to one or more picks using a image aspect ratio of approximately width/height = 5.153. I have added a .png template image to an
instruction thread which may be found here. The image is 1958 pixels wide by 380 pixels tall. The template contains 3 sub-images, one for each pick, and you can simply edit the image in something like MS Paint to add your own images in each location. You can use the same image or different sub-images.
*How this works. CustomMaker won't work if there isn't material under the complete area where text or image boxes are defined by the designer. To circumvent this problem a strip has been placed under all of the picks such that material is always there for CustomMaker. Hopefully in a future release CustomMaker will be modified to not have this problem but for now this is the only work-around I can find.
