Still standing at Ny-Ålesund on the island of Spitsbergen, Norway, this mast was erected as the starting point of the 1926 voyage of the airship Norge on a Roald Amundsen expedition to the North Pole. In 1928 it was used for the Italia expedition commanded by Colonel Umberto Nobile who had directed production of both the Norge and the Italia in Italy.
The mast was very similar to those built for the 'ships in Italy and elsewhere.
I hold stocks of the PA12 version of this model in my
CLASSIC AIRSHIPS web shop with a
very significant cost saving. There are kits of the
Norge and the Italia as well.
