Product Description
Originally designed for raids or as leaders for fast reserve forces, the four light dreadnoughts (Star Tiger, Star Leopard, Star Cougar, Star Lion) were known as “the Splendid Cats” by the pre-General-War Federation press. The design used the same three engines as the standard dreadnought, but reduced the hull by 16% (it carried five photon torpedoes to the dreadnought’s six) to increase the speed. The inclusion of three drone racks was somewhat “visionary” as the Federation had not considered drones a major weapon, but these were included to give the ship high “alpha strike” power without requiring energy. While splendid ships, there were no further light dreadnoughts built since they would have taken up space in the only shipyards able to build true dreadnoughts. Despite this, the Star Lynx and Star Leopard appeared in every year’s building schedule (for undesignated future years) often in the form of special variants. The Star Cheetah once appeared as a proposed X-technology raider and the Star Panther once appeared as a star control ship with gunboats that the Federation never built. All four of the cats actually built were highly active in the General War.

The ship is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
