Product Description
The Lyrans are human-sized cats that bore a distinct similarity to Terran lynxes in both appearance and temperament. Bitter enemies of the Kzintis (tigermen eight feet tall), the Lyrans were staunch allies of the Klingons and enemies of the Hydrans as well. Like Kzintis, Lyrans were carnivores known to eat their captives on rare occasions. The Federation assigned each Lyran ship-type a “reporting name” to keep them separate. Lyrans were organized as a feudal society. Twenty-one counties each had a squadron of ships lead by a heavy cruiser; four dukes had dreadnoughts to lead the four fleets, while the king-emperor commanded from the capital.

Most empires built fast cruisers and light dreadnoughts as high-speed raiders. The Lyrans did not. They built their fast cruisers to counter enemy raiders and their single pre-war light dreadnought to be the flagship of the Far Stars Duchy, where its high speed would allow the Duke to reach any point in his far-flung realm as quickly as possible. When Kzinti and Hydran fast cruisers and light dreadnoughts became more of a problem than the two Lyran fast cruisers could handled, the Lyran King-Emperor ordered the Far Stars Duke and his DNL into the main theater of war and assigned him the task of destroying, not merely driving away, enemy raiders. The Heartseeker was originally switched between the Kzinti and Hydran sectors. By the middle of the General War a second Light Dreadnought, Bloodseeker, was built so that each ship could remain in a single sector. The Federation called the ship Desert Lion. The Aztek panels on the outer surfaces represent efforts to reduce the electronic signature of the refitted Desert Lion and match it to the original Desert Lion so the enemy could not tell the difference.

The ship is available in a variety of materials. Ships are unpainted, use standard flight stands available from many sources, and, while designed for gaming, make fine display pieces.
