Product Description
10 guage Crusader Great Helm.
Historical helms were about 8 lbs accounting for their original manufactured thickness versus 620 years of rust that have reduced our museum peices. Newly made models of the day would be anywhere from 4 to 8 lbs. More mass means less concussions. This helmet is of functional thickness but is not made from tempered spring steel. It is made of a mixture of stainless steel and bronze interspersed together as powder and then fused with heat, essentially stainless steel powder that has been brazed together.
12 guage thickness is considered to be the minimum standard for safety in jousting and live combat sparring for medieval armor. This results in functional Helms of around 4 to 8 pounds. This helmet is roughly 10 guage.
You will need an arming cap and inner padding to wear comfortably. Can be worn with guilehelm (period accurate steel skullcap) and chainmail coif if desired.
There is a faceplate (GREAT HELM B) which attaches to the helm with 3/16th rivets, commonly available everywhere. Beware galvanic corrosion, use non-galvanizing rivets.
