The Type 8 Shuttle was created during the run of "Star Trek: Voyager" to have a shuttle where the warp nacelles resembles the ones of the mothership, like the Original Shuttle in TOS, The Type 7 in TNG and the Type 10 in DS9 does. Regardless how stupid this might be from an engineering standpoint. The shuttle was purposely designed, so the cockpit set and the full scale mock-up of the Type 6 could be used with a few alterations.
