Product Description
Babcock Rail built 22 KAA 'Mega3' pocket wagons in 2002 numbered BCC11501-22. Their innovative design with a 2.55m wide pocket allowed them to carry 2x 20ft Containers, a single 40ft or 45ft Container (up to 2.9m/9ft6in tall), a C45 swap-body (up to 13.6m x 2.55m high) or a road trailer (up to 13.6m x 3.4m high). Funded by the Strategic Rail Authority, the wagons were supplied to Blue Circle Cement in 2003 along with 15 specially-designed Feldbinder cement hoppers and 8 curtain-sided trailers. Services ran from Hope to Selby and Westbury to Southampton, but eventually proved uneconomic.
Purchased by NACCO, the wagons were transferred to the continent in 2008, being re-coded IXA (UIC Sdffgss) and renumbered 37 80 4905 001-022. The wagons returned to the UK, now owned by VTG, to operate a new twice daily Immingham to Doncaster iPort shuttle service, the Humber Express, in October 2021.

NOTES
- Three different prints are available. Choose SMALL for a single wagon, MEDIUM for a pair or LARGE for four.
- The prototype wagon runs on 730mm wheels in Y33 bogies. The N Gauge Society Fabricated Y25 Bogie, ideally fitted with 5mm wheels, is suitable.
- Clearances are very tight on this model and some careful filing of the chassis and bogie frames might be needed to allow sufficient bogie swivel.
- Shapeways' recommendations for cleaning, preparing and finishing Fine Detail Plastics can be found here.
- A model Feldbinder silo trailer is available in UK N Gauge (1/148) or US/European N Scale (1/160) from Model Railroad & Space Models on Shapeways. Blue Circle piggyback trailers were smaller than the standard design, so the 1/160 model might be more suitable.
