I started designing jewelry
because I couldn't find jewelry that I connected with, that I could wear to express where I was in life: what I was elated about, struggling with, wanting to do next.
I had a designer create a simple bypass ring with 3 engraved words: Cogitare Facere Essentia (Think Do Be). I found myself wanting to be the creator/inventor so I decided to take a class in CAD jewelry design.
I quickly fell in love with the creative process and outlet and wanted to continue designing pieces that reflected my own journey: to find my purpose; express myself; be bold and creative.
My designs are uncomplicated, imbued with meaning
and usually lead back to a great story!
What's in a Name:
-Tafari is part of Rastafari so my Jamaican roots are represented. It also means ‘she who inspires awe’
from the Ethiopian language, Amharic. And, one of my Uncles was a practicing Rastafarian.
- Thompson is my Mother’s maiden name.
- Tafari Thompson
is an alliteration like Steven Strange, Matt Murdoch, and Silver Surfer — which totally satisfies my love of all things Comic books.
- The triskele has long been a favorite symbol because it represents forward movement and iconic triads: life-death-rebirth, past-present-future, etc. The 3 words are Latin and translate to Think, Do and Be, and are my mantra in life.
