This pendant features the Woolly Mammoth, an animal that lived in the Pleistocene epoch and is most closely related to modern day Asian elephants. Woolly Mammoths lived in what is referred to as the "mammoth steppe," a cold and dry Ice Age biome that was populated by large herbivores. They coexisted with early humans, who hunted them for their meat and used their bones and tusks for tools, art and building shelters. The 40,000 year old Lion Man sculpture, found in the Hohlenstein-Stadel cave in Germany, was carved of mammoth tusk.
