Product Description
The lady's slipper orchids are characterized by a modified petal which forms a pouch resembling a woman's slipper. The purpose of the slipper is to temporarily trap pollinators. When a pollinating insect slips into the pouch, it must climb out, collecting and leaving pollen as it goes. This pendant is based on the lady's slipper orchid Cypripedium calceolus, a species widely distributed in woodland environments in Europe, including the Leutra Valley of central Germany.
