Product Description
A set of four 9'wb, 16'6" OHS steel solebar chassis intended for British Railways 16t mineral wagons (except the rare rebodied palbrick version, which needs a 10'wb chassis). The model includes enough couplers to have some spares left over for other wagons. There is also a sprue of eight sets of brake rods. These are reversible, or leave-out-entirely-able, to let you make one side, both sides independent, or Morton brake arrangements (you can move the crank end of the brake lever if you like). The headstocks end flush with the sides so that they fit between the corner stanchions on the mineral wagon body, and one headstock has slots for the stanchions on the non opening end to fit in without filing. To fit an iron ore tippler body instead of a 16t mineral, you would need to file notches in the headstock at the other end to match. The 8-shoe clasp brake version could probably be modelled using this kit by removing the V hanger and rods and just leaving the brake shoes, removing the ties bars beween the axleguards, then chopping spare sets of rods to put brake shoes outside the wheels too. Depending on the exact prototype you are modelling, though, you may have to find your own solution to the brake lever lengths, reversing mechanism and V-hangers below the solebar.  If you want to do a lot of these, let me know and I'll come up with something tailored for you. Vacuum cylinders not included, but I have a separate model which is a sprue of these.
For sale when proven to work (the self-acting/springable 'rapido-style' N-gauge couplers are a new design)
UPDATE I have ordered a set in smoothest fine detail plastic now. All is well and the couplers all move up and down, but I haven't tried out the improved arrangement for shim-springing yet. I'm making it available for sale now but I do suggest you contact me if you're planning to use the shim-springing, and wouldn't be prepared to resort to using fine wire between the holes in the coupler arm rear-ends instead.
