Roof walks for MTH Chicago Subway 3200s (rear)

In 1990 the Chicago Transit Authority purchased a new series of rail cars to replace its aging fleet of PCC rapid transit cars. An order for 257 cars was placed with Morrison-Knudson for the construction of these cars, the 3200 series. Sixteen of these cars (cars 3441-3456) were equipped with Faiveley pantographs for use on the Skokie Swift (today’s Yellow Line) which operated from an overhead wire west of East Prairie Road in Skokie, Illinois. Cars 3451-3456 were eventually transferred from the Yellow Line and had their pantographs removed but retained their roof walks in other service. 3441-3450 remained in use with pantographs until the Yellow Line was converted to third rail operation in 2004. These cars had their pantographs removed shortly afterward.

MTH Railking produced a set of O gauge “Chicago Subway 3200 series” cars in 2005, lettered for either the Brown or Orange Lines, but did not produce a set for the Yellow Line, which also used these cars. These roof walks have been specially designed to fit on the MTH 3200 series cars on your layout for either Yellow or Brown Line service. A complete set (2 cars) will require 2 rear roof walks and 2 front roof walks.
