Product Description
The Pin was previously offered as a limited edition purchase over the Christmas period 2016. This Pin is a new model derived from the original research and uses a more detailed scan of the head surfaceIt has also been adjusted as a craftsman would have done to produce what the finished artefact might have looked like.

The design of this pin is the result of an archaeological Masters dissertation which investigated non-ferrous metalworking mould fragments recovered from The Cairns Broch on South Ronaldsay, Orkney and was presented in association with the Orkney Archaeological Society.

Three fragments were deemed to be from the same mould and were digitally scanned to create virtual 3D replicas (which can be seen here). These virtual models were then manipulated to "virtually cast" the resultant Iron Age pin in a "just cast" form. The project generated a lot of interest both locally and nationally and now the result can be yours to own.

This pin is available in the traditional bronze mixture of 90% copper / 10% tin and so can be finished off as the craftsmen would have undoubtedly done, or left as is.

Please note this pin has not yet been recovered from The Cairns and currently the only indication of its form that we have are the mould fragments themselves.

The pin is offered in a range of 3 materials, all of which are archaeologically suitable to this product.
