Federation Ancient class Cruiser V3 4.1" long

The Ancient class Refit was designed and tested as an advanced explorer with a multipurpose platform along with several other star ship designs, including the Intrepid, Akira and Nova classes and shares several design features with these ships.

These classes were built to replace older ships designed during peacetime, such as the New Orleans, Oberth and Springfield classes. Ships who's tactical shortcomings were exposed during the battle of Wolf 359.

Now even research and scientific classes would be equipped with the most advanced defensive systems possible.

Following this new design philosophy the Ancient class is not helpless by any means. Like all ships designed and commissioned after the Borg incursion, this vessel has state of the art defensive systems including advanced deflector shields capable of multiphasic and multi-spectrum shielding. The class has twenty-four shield grids covering the forward, port, starboard and aft arcs. The class is also equipped with Type 10 phaser emitters mounted in eleven strips strategically placed across the hull, offering full 360 degrees of overlapping arcs of fire. And lastly, the ship is equipped with the Fixed Focus Rapid Fire (FFRF) torpedo system, with four tubes (2 forward and 2 aft) capable of firing three torpedoes each; giving the ship the ability to fire six torpedoes in a salvo, forward and aft.

At 415 meters in length and 16 decks this class is tactically considered a fast light cruiser.

As a research ship the Ancient class is equally formidable. Sporting state of the art advanced sensor suites and housing an impressive lab complex, this ship is nearly as capable as any scientifically dedicated vessel.

The Ancient Class is powered by an advanced Cochrane type matter/antimatter warp core feeding two robust nacelles. At warp the cruising speed is warp 7 with an emergency speed of warp 9.85 which it can sustain for a full twelve hours.

At impulse, this class is capable of standard speeds, but is very maneuverable for it's size.

Some of the other features of this design include a respectably sized shuttle bay capable of housing six shuttle craft plus two visiting shuttles. An aeroshuttle (identical to the Intrepid class design). Two independent impulse engines, an advanced thruster system and a secondary navigational deflector. Like the other classes in it's lineage this vessel is equipped with an Emergency Medical Hologram (EMH).

Crew compliment is 250 personal.

Mission types include, scientific, search and rescue, patrol, diplomatic and convoy escort.
