General Designs Hulls: Delta Series
(Note: This was previously the GDH:D302A "upgrade" version, which has now replaced the older (less detailed) model.)
The huge Delta Superdreadnought is the largest hull build by General Designs. It is a rare sight, since few of GD's customers can afford such a large vessel. Most of the produced hulls thus go to the Herosine Imperial Fleet, as the Empire's primary starship contractor.
The new Hersoine naval facilities at the Nathador Nebula have brought with them an additional benefit. The Maximus Thrax Superdreadnought Upgrade Project provides a major overhaul of the Delta Superdreadnought hull, which was right on the limit of previous technology; while the first recipients of this upgrade is the Maximus Thrax, the base Delta hulls will also see a similar update.
The upgrade package is a significant enough overhaul that it cannot be applied to the existing hulls. A new, larger power core allows the Delta Superdreadnought hull to carry a larger mass for the same engine rating. While not strictly larger than the Delta Superdreadnought, the Delta SDN Upgrade has more mass and has notably significantly more super-structures on the tiers, allowing for more weapons emplacements. The internal structure, notably the crew quarters have commensurately more space as well. This comes at the expense of some loss of flexibility in modification.
The modifications come with a substantial increase in manufacturing cost, however and combined with the fact that currently only the Nathador Nebula facility can produce the vessel and for the moment the upgraded superdreadnoughts remain the purview of special commissions. Regular Delta SDNs are remaining in production at the General Designs shipyards, though it is expected the Herosine Empire itself will switch exclusively to the newer hull for its own needs.
