Sometimes very simple mathematical formulae can generate seemingly-endless, highly-detailed forms. The Julia Set belongs to that category. The Julia Set is the set of points (in this case, locations in 3D space) for which a trivial system of equations, when iterated, converges to a solution (as opposed to exploding to infinity). The inputs to this system of equations are a point's position in space and four numerical constants. For any set of four input constants, a new shape is made.
This pendant is the instantiation of a Julia set for the set of four constants -0.727, 0.256, -0.4, 0.0. It was constructed algorithmically, voxel-by-voxel, with a simple iterative function; then smoothed, surfaced, and uploaded to Shapeways. All you need to do is thread a chain, cord, or hook through the hole near the tip, and the piece is ready to wear. Show the world that you can look good AND not be afraid of math.
