This is a 1:8 scale Zenith carburettor as fitted to the Hispano-Suiza 8Be aero engine also on sale in my shop.
The Hispano-Suiza 8Be was a development of the original Hispano-Suiza 8A engine released in 1914. The H-S8 series of engines became the most succesful engine used by the allies in WW1. Increased compression in 8Be's cylinders and a higher rev limit allowed the power output to be increased to 220 hp from the 140hp of the first engines. A reduction gear of 0.75:1 was fitted to reduce the propellor RPM, but became something of an Achilles Heel and lacked reliability. It was not unknown for the entire propellor and ouput shaft to part company with the airframe before the pilot had finished using them.
