Product Description
This is the kit of the Artois-class frigate. It can be built as Diana or any of her sisters. We used scans of the original plans which are available copyright-free from Wikimedia Commons to reconstruct her, chiefly from Seahorse and Diana.
Artois-class frigates were one of the first 18-pdr frigate classes built by the Royal Navy in 1794. There were 9 ships in the class, Artois, Diana, Apollo, Diamond, Jason, Seahorse, Tamar, Clyde and Ethalion. Tamar and Clyde were built as wartime-only ships out of fir, while the rest were oak-built. Between them, they sunk or captured at least 10 enemy frigates, 8 corvettes, and 31 privatiers or sloops, as well as numerous merchants, gunboats, and smaller vessels.
All of the ships had 28 18pdr guns on their upper deck.
In addition to decor (bow figure and transom decorations), main differences between the ships were the numbers and placement of carronades and 9pdrs on the forecastle and quarterdeck. However, the general rule was that no short barreled carronade could fire through the shrouds, as it would set them on fire with high probability, so normally at least 4 9pdrs were retained in the "shrouds" ports, and non-shrouds ports had 32pdr carronades. 9pdrs were also much more useful as chase or stern guns.

For rigging, obtaining Anatomy of the Ship HMS Diana 1794 book is invaluable, alternatively you can use the mast size formula for british warships for example from Mondfeld.
This is a 1:1000 Waterline version of the kit. As this is a direct scale down of 1:700 kit, it might be too thin to print. However, automatic checks allow the offer, and in worst case that it is not printable, then you get a refund, so give it a try!
