This historical sterling silver pendant makes the perfect gift for Doctors of Pharmacy and students graduating in the field of pharmacy.

ATHENS, GREECE - 441 B.C. - Each of his breaths was labored and painful. Near his bed, family spoke in hushed tones with the physician. Pericles, the great senator had come to visit and wish him luck. 8 days prior, the master stonemason had been carving the great sculpture on the Parthenon gable when a loose stone gave way, causing him to plunge 35 feet to the unyielding earth below.
The Ancient Greek physicians gave him their best care, and the stonemason survived. In honor of his recovery, Pericles the senator ordered a monument of gold erected to the goddess of good health, Hygeia. In ancient Greek mythology, Hygeia was the daughter of Asclepius, the god of medicine.
2,500 years later, the Bowl of Hygeia is widely used as a symbol of pharmacy. In celebration of vast human achievements in the science of medicinal cures, I created this new pendant, looking ahead towards a vision of what is yet to come in this field.
What will the next century in pharmacy bring? The cure for cancer? Treatments that can be digitally designed, prescribed, transmitted, and printed on a machine in rural areas across the globe from the labs that developed them?
Each pendant is is 1-1/4" tall by 1" wide. The inner diameter of the top ring is 3.0mm.
