Product Description
This is a kit of parts to modify the Minitrains HOe/HOn30 Baldwin 2-6-2T. The idea is to help change the locomotive from its spartan “trench engine” looks to something resembling more like an early 20th-century Baldwin product.
The kit contains:
1. One cab;
2. Two pilots (cowcatchers), front and rear;
3. Front buffer plate hole cover (to close the front buffer hole and permit mounting of a Greenwhich coupler)
4. Radley & Hunter baloon stack;
5. Flanged stack cap;
6. Rear headlight and mounting bracket.
The kit has been designed to take Greenwhich couplings. Micro-Trains couplers can be fitted by omitting some parts.

INSTRUCTIONS:
- Open package (yes, yes… :-D) and check part for integrity and imperfections. If by any chance there are any printing defects please contact Shapeways Customer Service.
- Using a pair of nippers or sprue cutters carefully separate the parts from the sprue. Given the number of small and/or fragile parts, the designer recommends washing the parts in white spirits before cutting them free from the sprue.
- The balloon chimney and chimney flange are designed to slip over the stock Minitrains chimney. The designer recommends unscrewing the chimney before attempting fitting. If fit is too tight, use a reamer to open hole up a bit.
- As mentioned above the kit was designed with Greenwich couplers in mind. To install couplers under bunker, carefully drill and tap hole in mounting pad. The front buffer covering has a mounting pad of its own with three holes; again, to install coupler, drill and tap hole of choice.
TIP: when the designer assembled his version he secured coupler to the pilot using one of the spare nails included in the coupler package – open starter hole in couple mount using a 0.5mm drill, widen the hole in coupler shank (or drill new one to suit desired coupler length), install coupler and then slip nail in. Trim excess nail length using a set of pliers. The nail will slide fit into the hole however the designer recommends if necessary adding a dab of white glue to ensure that it will not accidentally drop off.
Micro-Trains couplers can be fitted in front by omitting the front buffer cover; however the coupler pin will have to be cut to clear the pilot. A Micro-Trains coupler box can be screwed directly under the bunker using the mounting provided.
- When mounting the cab to the boiler the designer suggests cutting off the original mounting lugs on the boiler (if they haven’t been broken during removal of the original cab) and sticking the new cab back using white glue and a square of double-faced adhesive tape placed on to of the frame just behind the motor. By this means the cab can be taken out for servicing without damaging anything while being sufficiently strong to withstand normal traction and buffing stresses.
- Cab handrails can be fitted by drilling out starting holes located next to cab doors (a magnifying glass might be needed to locate them) and forming handrails using 0.3mm brass or steel wire.
- For those who would like to add a SMLED (Surface Mount Light Emitting Diode) to the backup headlight, a starting hole has been provided on the base, just drill it out to thread wires.
Locomotive, Greenwich couplings and track not included.
