Product Description
This print contains the cab shutters for the Oil Fired(Collett 2884 2-8-0 locomotives and the feed pipe component of a two part kit designed to convert the 3500g tender as fitted to the Hornby 00 GWR 2884 Class 2-8-0. Please note that this will not fit the 3500g tender without removable coal or tender driven models.

History:

In Britain, between 1945 & 1947 coal was in short supply. With the Railways probably being the largest users in the country, the government encouraged them to conver some of their locomotives to burn oil. A short video on the subject can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qISLfouQJIw.

During this time the locos were renumbered into the 48XX series as follows:

Collett 2884
2888 - 4850, 3813 - 4855, 3818 - 4852, 3820 - 4856, 3831 - 4857, 3837 - 4854,
3839 - 4853, 3865 - 4851.

Instructions:

In order to fit these to the locomotive it will be necessary  to remove the cab hand rails (these simply pull out. The shutters can then be glued to the cab sides over the windoes. Please note the shutter are handed with the small round handle being closer to the bottom.

To convert  the tender you will need two parts, the feed pipe from this print and my GWR 28XX & 2884 Tank for Oil Burning TenderPlease remember to order this at the same time as the pipe so as to save on postage! The shorter end of the feed pipe locates in the round hole towards the back of the tank so that the longer end rests on the top of the tender nect to the large dome. The pipe's short end  and the hole in which it is fitted has a square end to help ensure the pipe aligns correctly (see photo of finished tender.

This pipe should be glued in place using a small drop of superglue. It may also be necessary to file a little off the longer end of the pipe to ensure that the pipe just touches the tender top and does not lift the end of the tank.
