The ring can be worn in 2 different orientations and can be customized by request.
As part of the SMK (The National Gallery of Denmark) and Shapeways design contest the ring design draws parallels and was inspired by Cornelius Norbertus Gijsbrecht's painting Trompe l'Oeil with Trumpet, Celestial Globe and Proclamation by Frederik III.
Trompe l'Oeil or "deception of the eye" generally refers to making 2D objects appear in 3D, in the case of the Satellite ring depending on your viewpoint the form appears to change and from certain angles the it appears to be 2D.
