Product Description
This sprue includes parts to construct (2) 3 axle Buckeye trucks as they appear on the DODX 68' flatcar. These modern trucks could also be used on other projects such as heavy-duty flatcars or cranes.

They have a 140" wheelbase and are designed to use Kadee 36" wheelsets, athough other brands would work with slight modification. Intermountain wheelsets are slightly shorter in axle length, so by sanding the bolster to be narrower, you can bring the sideframes slightly closer together to fit shorter axles, although test this out for your individual situation before making any permanent modifications.

The middle axle should fit slightly loose in the bearing, allowing it to have some lateral movement to negotiate tighter curvesand vertical imperfection in the track. If you run the car on wide-radius curves with good trackwork, this feature is not important.

In order to build a complete DODX flatcar, you also need to print:
  1. DODX Flatcar Deck and Frame kit
  2. DODX Truck and Detail kit (this product)
See those other two product listings for more complete instructions on building the car.

Construction of Trucks:
  1. Separate the parts from each other-the trucks have pins on the backside that are connected by a slightly narrower sprue and then the main runner. DO NOT cut off the entire pin, just part where it mates with the runner.
  2. Orient sideframes properly -There are right and left versions of these sideframes. Prototype trucks are constructed of three main components, two identical halves that are supported by the outer axles, and the smaller bracket for the middle axle. One of the larger pieces is inboard of the other, making the sideframe thicker on one side where they double up. This thicker side of the truck points toward the ends on the DODX flatcar. The double brake shoes on the bolster should face toward the center of the car.
  3. Glue one sideframe to the bolster by inserting the pins into the holes.
  4. Insert the three wheelsets and then the other sideframe
  5. Mount to car with 2-56 size screw. The hole might need to be opened slightly for the truck to pivot freely; just check on that before finishing the model.
  6. Install the detail parts on the DODX flatcar. If you are not building the DODX flatcar, you can use the parts for a different project.
