Product Description
This is a model of common front pilots on the D&RGW. It was drawn from the railroad's drawings and changed very slightly to make it more printable. It is slightly wider for the 4 mounting holes on the mounting plate that attaches to the pilot beam, as well as .25" full size dimensions becoming .50" so the wall thickness is enough. This is a mere .012" thicker, I don't think the rivet counters will notice!
This is designed to fit an Accucraft 1:20.3 coupler with the centering spring features trimmed. I will see how the Kadee equivalent will fit soon, although the trip pin will most likely need trimming or cutting off altogether. The 4 side mounting holes are 1mm, I designed them on the smaller side in just in case. Use micro drill bits if needed to enlarge.
There is a center mounting hole for an M2 Flat Head Screw to handle the majority of the pulling/pushing forces. This pilot's thickness at that point is 3.1mm, so I'd suggest purchasing a longer one to secure to your pilot beam! The measurement is taken from the rear of the coupler pocket to the back of the pilot mount. The M2 coupler bolt that secures the coupler has a depth of 16.9mm, and it is designed to come from the bottom and thread into an M2 nut slipped into the coupler pocket before inserting the coupler.
The insert hanging off the back is the coupler insert to allow it to work with the M2 coupler bolt. I recommend flush cutters or an exacto blade to remove.
This option is the pilot without nuts installed in the coupler pocket feature. There is another page for the boiler tube pilot with the nuts.
I do not think this pilot will scale smaller at all, since the details are already very small for printing. I may be able to scale it larger, but the fastening features are designed for F scale. Contact me if this interests you.
I have included a printed brass option, I have NOT printed it in brass so I do not know how it will look. But it is available to whoever wants it! And yes, it is an expensive process.
