Shockhood B 4mm:1ft

This is a 4mm:1ft model of the body of the British Railways Shockhood B wagon. It is rescaled on request from my 2mm:1ft model, with the detailing thinned down to take advantage of the larger scale. I have of course also removed the tracing on the underside as I don't know what 12' wb chassis kits or spares are available in 4mm to fit it to. Unlike my 2mm model, vacuum cylinders are not included on this one as they would make it cost a lot more. The chassis should have clasp brakes, SAB and roller bearings, not pushrods and tiebars. I think there's a Parkside Dundas one with pushrods and tiebars which you could bash, working from photographs, but maybe there's something better. The sides project below the tops of the solebars to cover the shock springs, and the wagon body is shorter than the chassis OHS to leave room for the body to move back and forth when absorbing shunting shocks. See the N-gauge/2mm model for more information. There are little blocks on the ends of the body with holes to plant three pre-shaped sheet support wires, one vertical and one to either side. Treat them gently when fitting. The wagons generally ran with tarpaulin over these support bars to keep the insides and loads clean and dry.  
The vertical guide slots fitted to support the load (sheets of tinplate) have been modelled on the inside walls of the wagon: these lines are meant to be there, they're not a printing artefact!
