Product Description
This is a sphere formed with 12 rings (6 sets of 2 parallel rings) , similar to the model Stripsphere12, but with the pairs of parallel rings closer to their equator. The pairs of rings are arranged parallel to the 12 faces of the regular dodecahedron. This produces 12 pentagonal stars, centered on the faces of the dodecahedron, and 30 hexagonal stars, centered on the edges of the regular dodecahedron. There are 80 triangles total, 5 around each of the 12 pentagons ( =60), plus 20 at the vertices of the dodecahedron, for a total of 122 faces: 80 triangles, 30 hexagons, and 12 pentagons. The entire solid has 120 vertices and 240 edges. I once made a greenhouse (a 5/8 dome about 20' across) with this pattern, using redwood strips. Large models can be made with stainless steel sheet metal or plywood, if anyone should be interested!
