This model is the rope locker hatch for an 80' Elco PT boat. It is made to Elco dimensional drawings and is scale except for a thicker base flange, reinforcement plate on top of cover, and wing nut ears to meet Shapeways minimum thickness requirements. A single mounting pin is located in the center of the hatch and has a groove for better retention to the hull. The pin is 3/32" diameter for 24th and 20th scale hatches, and 1/8" diameter for 16th scale.
Preparation
The first step is to clean all parts thoroughly. Since wax and oil are used in the printing process, an ultrasonic cleaning with a Simple Green or similar solution is highly recommended. Handle very carefully as the plastic is brittle. Please see the guide and links here:
http://www.pt103.com/3D_Printed_PT_Boat_Parts.html. For successful gluing and painting results be sure to follow cleaning with a UV cure from a lamp with the correct output, or the sun.
Remove the hatch by cutting the sprue attachment to the mounting pin and slide it out of the protective sprue cage. Trim off any remaining sprue from the mounting pin.
Location
To center of hatch / mounting pin (given in full scale):
68" aft of boat forward point.
24" port of the boat center line.
