Product Description
This is a HO scale model of the steam locomotive "Velocity" built in 1832 by the West Point Foundry for the Philadelphia, Germantown & Norristown Rail Road. Delivered in early 1833, the engine was originally named "Philadelphia". The locomotive was still in use in 1838, however its later history is unkown. Velocity shares many details with the more famous, and preserved locomotive John Bull of the Camden & Amboy line, and was obviously inspired by the designs of Robert Stephenson. This was probably the most conventional locomotive ever built by the West Point Foundry.

This model is based off a well known engraving of the engine, as well as a sketch made by David Matthew (who was employed by the foundry in the 1830s).
  • Driving wheels for this model can be had from American Scale Models, listed on their site as "Steam Loco, trailing truck wheels, 54", item number 1037.
  • The leading wheels are spoked 36" wheels with flush axle ends available from Precision Scale Models
  • Additional detail may be added using decal rivets, wire for the valve gear, etc.

Caution: This model is extremely fragile due to its small size and precise details, and even more so when printed in fine detail plastic. It should be handled with extreme care, and is not intended for the novice modeler.
