Product Description
An Armillary Sphere is an ancient astronomical device, originating from China in the 4th century BC and Greece in the 3rd century BC. It depicts the positions of celestial objects in the sky. The pendant is based on the Ptolemaic armillary sphere, placing Earth at the center, in contrast to the Copernican armillary sphere, where the Sun is at the center. One complete rotation of the central axis of the Ptolemaic armillary sphere represents 24 hours. The three narrow central bands correspond to the equatorial ring, the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. The wider band wrapping around the set of three is the ecliptic ring, representing the signs of the zodiac and the annual path of the sun.
The Armillary Sphere Pendant is approximately 2.5 cm (1 inch) in diameter. The central axis rotates inside the two exterior rings.
