Product Description
Fix an Omnitech (or similar) shredder!
The individual add-on shredder teeth allow you to get a few more years out of your paper shredder, rather than throw it away. The DOUBLE tooth lets you repair a unit where two teeth beside one-another are missing.
These were designed for an Omnitech (eg. OT-EXC10A) cross-cut paper shredder, but should work for any that has similar dimensions. See the photos for guidance. The critical dimension is an edge-to-tooth-tip distance of 38mm.
The symptom: a plastic tooth breaks off your $80 paper shredder, then strips of paper build up on the shredder drum and almost rip the machine apart. Those plastic teeth were there to clear away the shredded strips.
To use one of these replacement teeth, you just need a hot-glue gun. You need to precisely place the tooth so it cleans the slot where the missing tooth was positioned. Note the direction of rotation, and the angle of the tooth. Ensure the power is off before getting your fingers into the danger zone!
This remedy isn't a perfect solution - they tend to work for weeks, then suddenly a tooth might snag and get destroyed by the mechanism, so it's good to have a few on hand. Just gently pry off the glue joint, and glue a new one on.
The one I am currently using on my machine has been in place for over a year, so sometimes you'll get the setup right, and have a good run.
You may be able to fit this tooth to other similar machines with shorter dimensions with the use of a shim. A creative user may be able to glue differently for other uses, but be careful as the mechanism loves to eat anything it can snag.
This product solves the problem of two side-by-side original teeth lost, because two singles can't get close enough together. The single tooth is also available on this Shapeway's store.
Individual teeth are available on this shop in a Two Pack or Four Pack
There's also a Three-pack of these DOUBLE teeth, to cover all your scenarios.
