Product Description
NASA & Lockheed Martin joined an aerospike rocket engine mounted on top of a SR-71 to provide information on for the X-33 single stage to orbit demonstrator. The Linear Aerospike SR-71 Experiment (LASRE) was conducted in 1997 & 1998 after a 20% model of a X-33 wing with a working aerospike engine was mounted on top of NASA “844” SR-71. Although the LASRE was never test fired in flight due to leaks, it was one of the most unique configurations of the SR-71.
This 3D model was designed for 1/48 scale SR-71 model. The LASRE “canoe” has four support feet that can be anchored by drilling four 3.5mm into the hump of the SR-71 model. 1/48 art work is provided on request for DIY decals (inkjet printed or a commercial decal printer can print the decals for you). The artwork is for the LASRE pod and not the SR-71. A inkjet printed NASA meatball will not work since the background is black. You can also get a NASA meatball of the same size (7.5mm) from a few different commercially printed decal sheets.
