Product Description
This item is intended to be used as a screw-on cap mechanism for something that is hollow but requires a removeable cap to let things in or to let them out. Think of things like a coin bank, an insect cage, a terrarium, or a small urn to hold pet ashes. 3D printing is too expensive to print a large sized container with a screw on lid so it's best if you supply your own container in most situations.
To use this part drill a 1.25 diameter inch hole at a location on your container that is flat. The rim that sticks out from the main body will help to hide any imperfections of the hole edges once the mechanism is mounted. Two thin stop tabs in the mounting piece will help to provide a more secure fit and prevent the piece from twisting in the hole when the lid is tightened or loosened. Carefully use a small saw blabe, file, or nibbler tool to create the side slots after drilling the hole. The feedthrough mechanism can then be glued or epoxied in place from the outside of the container.
The looped-together version lowers the production price in various materials. The connecting wires can be cut with a sharp pair of scissors or a wire cutter to separate the individual parts.
