Product Description
USS Onondaga was a river monitor commissioned in 1864, spending her entire career with the James River Flotilla, blocking the waterways to the Confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia. She participated in the battle of Trent's Reach, sold to France after the war, and finally sold for scrap in 1904.
The Miantonomoh class consisted of four monitors (Miantonomoh, Monadnock, Agamenticus, Tonawanda), of which only one (Monadnock) took part in the American Civil War. The other vessels were completed after the end of hostilities. Miantonomoh toured Europe, via Great Britain, Denmark, Russia, visiting then all major naval powers of the Mediterranean, before returning to her duties in home waters; Monadnock was the only one to be decommissioned in 1865-66 due to her heavy use in combat operations. All remaining ships were broken up in 1874-5.
