The Grossflugdeckkreuzer concept (not to be confused with the flugzeugkreuzer) emerged in 1942 following the need to provide air cover for Kriegsmarine operations and their use as large surface commerce raiders, even though the latter concept died to death with Bismarck the previous and Scharnhorst the following year.
Notwithstanding, a series of hybrid designs was drawn up for a 'large aviation cruiser', the four designs (the first was a proper carrier) of the A series, even though they were in all intents and purposes aviation battleships, ranging from 40,000 to 70,000 metric tons in displacement.
Design AIII was the second of the series to be developed; it was the same size and displacement as AIV, that is, 280mt in length and 70,000 tons. The ship was supposed to be armed with six 28cm guns in two triple turrets and sixteen 15cm guns in twin casemates, the same that equipped the Graf Zeppelin class carriers. Anti-aircraft armament was 16 10.5cm and 12 3.7cm twin mounts, with a 32 aircraft airgroup. Six 53cm torpedo tubes were supposed to also be fitted somewhere, though it's unclear, but likely, if these were underwater fixed tubes rather than the rotating mounts used on the destroyers. Developing 280,000shp for a speed of 34kn at 70,000 tons, it would have been a massive logistical strain for the Kriegsmarine at that time.
Commerce raiding in large surface ships was proven not viable anymore already with the battle of the Falklands in WW1, and the outdated doctrine for this kind of Kriegsmarine operations really show the toll taken by the forced two-decade pause in the management of a large surface navy imposed by the restrictions of the Versailles Treaty.
