The principal sandalwood odorant (–)-(Z)-β-santalol (th 0.5 ng/l air) and the most intense synthetic sandalwood material Javanol (th 0.02 ng/l air, also available as pendant) both superimpose extremely well on 5α-androst-16-en-3α-ol. This and the exceptionally low odor threshold make it a prime candidate for a human pheromone.
The dimensions are ca. 4.7 cm × 2.2 cm × 2.2 cm, and the hole for the key ring or chain (not included) has a diameter of ca. 2.8 mm. In semi-precious and precious metal Androstenol is also a nice pendant for a necklace.
