OverviewAlco's RS36 was very much like the earlier RS11, with a few design changes and an upgraded horsepower. The two models even shared the same specification.
This new product from Cutting Edge Scale Models allows you to convert your N scale Atlas or Atlas/Kato RS11 into the later RS36. These components are based on Norfolk and Western #408. This version features louvered rooftop grilles, rather than the standard chicken wire grilles found on many other Alco locomotives. We have made every possible effort to recreate every detail in miniature.
Modelers that have previously ordered the RS36 conversion kit that included only the sides can get a discount, simply PM me and I will arrange it.
Installation:To install, simply pop cab and shell off locomotive body, remove brake wheel and headlights from body, install on new shell, and pop shell and cab back into place.
The side handrails must be removed to allow for a new handrail arrangement. Use a pair of pliers or a razor blade to remove the handrails from the walkway. Using .010" or .015" phosphor bronze wire, cut small pieces for the stanchions. Locate the pieces of wire on the walkway according to prototype drawings and photos, then touch the brass with a soldering iron. The brass will heat up and melt itself into the walkway. Ensure that the stanchion is at a 90 degree angle to the walkway. Finally, solder or CA the handrail onto the stanchions and bend to shape. Clean up the joints with a file or a sanding wheel in a dremel tool.
To get the appearance of fine mesh for the side air intakes, it will be necessary to cut small squares of Ngineering fine mesh and glue it into place, using as little CA as possible.
