Product Description
American SST in 1970! This was the result of a US government sponsored design competition to energize the US aviation industry in the early 60's with the threat of the development of the Concorde in Europe. The competition was won by Boeing competing against Lockheed's L-2000 and North American's XB-70 based design. This is a model of the final design set to go into prototype production in 1967 for a first flight in 1970. This was the refinement of the Boeing swing wing SST design also available in this shop. Seating 234 people the 2707-300 would cruise at mach 3. Ultimately, it only reached the mock-up stage before Congressional cancellation in 1971 after delays and cost overruns and questions about its economic viability even with over 100 orders from 25 airlines for the plane. This is a tiny fleet of SST's, be carful flying over your shag rug!
