Product Description
The Fairbanks-Morse H-12-44, first introduced in 1950, represents one of the classic early switch locomotives. Externally, the early versions of the H-12-44 were nearly identical to the H-10-44. Later versions, such as the one represented by this model, were "spartanized" to reduce production costs. Almost 340 H-12-44s of both variety were eventually produced . This N-Scale (1:160) locomotive shell is designed to allow for the conversion of an Atlas Baldwin VO-1000 into a FM H-12-44. No modification to the mechanism should be required beyond the removal of the existing Atlas shell. While pilot holes for the handrails are designed into the shell, they should be drilled out before final assembly; that said, due to new Shapeways policies, the shell no longer includes handrails. A cab interior is also included; in order to fit it however, the locomotive's "rear facing" LED will need to be either removed or relocated. As with all Frosted Ultra Detail (FUD) models, cleaning, painting and decaling are required to complete the locomotive. Sanding with fine-grit sandpaper is also recommended on the accessible flat surfaces.
