The hull and main armament of the ship are the same as the basic Alsace model.
Bourgogne was to have been the last of four Alsace class battleships: Alsace, Normandie, Flandre, and Bourgogne. The ship has been modified to fit a hypothetical 1943 refit based on the late war AA refit of the Richelieu class, with aircraft facilities removed, 13.2mm and 37mm AA guns swapped for 40mm Bofors and 20mm Oerlikons.
