Product Description
Tom Rolt started life as a 3ft gauge Andrew Barclay 0-4-0WT, built for the Irish turf board in 1949, it was rebuilt from the ground up and converted to 2ft 3in gauge by John Bate and his fellow engineers at Pendre works. The locomotive was names after the railway's general manager, Tom LTC Rolt; known for his popular book, 'Railway Adventure'. Numbered 7 in the roster, Tom Rolt entered service in 1991 and is the Talyllyn Railway's most recent and most powerful steam engine to be added to the fleet and has proven itself to be a valuable addition.
This model of Tom Rolt is consisted of 5 parts; the main body, front buffer beam & cylinders, pony truck, smokebox door and cab roof. To complete this model you will primarily need a 'Bachmann N scale Percy chassis', 'DW61 - Greenwich 009/2mm - 5.5mm Solid Wheel' and lengths of 0.4mm wire (4 cut to 17.2mm+ and pressed into the cylinders for the sliding rods and other lengths for hand rails and other details). To fit the pony wheel to the truck, press off one wheel then slide the axe through the bore in the pony truck, then replace the wheel afterwards. During this process you will need to file the ends of the axle from the shaft to ensure it fits between the body's frame rails. To fit the pony truck, remove the wheel retaining plate from the chassis and replace the rear NEM coupling pocket with the pony truck. Take care not to let the wheels fall out during this process.
For couplings you can either use wire to act as a hook and slot it in the designated holes located at the front and rear buffer beams. Alternatively open the locating holes if necessary and use a RT Models cast coupling.
If this is your first 3D printed model in 'smooth fine detail plastic', immerse the parts in whitespirit for an hour to remove excess wax then rinse under warm water. When dry, either use fine wet and dry sandpaper or a backwards scraping motion to smooth the flat surfaces of the model (the tank sides and cab).
