Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger Pen Holder

Every office desk deserves a little functional eye candy. Working in the fabrication industry, I wanted something that represented my designs.

This is a cross section of a typical shell and tube heat exchanger that seconds as a pen or pencil holder. Some artistic liberties have been taken, but some of the technical details are shell-side baffles, flanged tubesheets, and a bellows expansion joint. The tubes are hollow with an inside diameter of 11/16", and can be used to either store additional pens, or showcase various types of tube inserts (CALGAVIN hiTRAN inserts are displayed in the photo).
